One stage closer

Tony Brown @ June 18, 2008 # No Comment Yet

Yesterday I learnt that I have passed my final practial shiatsu assessment.
All that remains is for the college to give a final mark to my written course work and I am a fully qualified shiatsu practitioner.
Now the real work begins!

What I should have said to Paul Lundberg

Tony Brown @ February 19, 2008 # No Comment Yet

With some trepidation I attended my final regular weekend with Paul Lundberg at the Brighton College. The nervousness came from the fact that in the previous couple of years I have not quite “got” Paul Lundberg’s approach to shiatsu. Nothing connected and I could not understand what all the fuss was about.
I found […]

Shiatsu 1 - Dentist 0

Tony Brown @ February 1, 2008 # 3 Comments

Eventually I got to see my Dentist and was prepared for him to do anything to get rid of my pain. Unfortunately, the receptionist had written the appointment out incorrectly and I was booked for a simple examination and no time for the major facial surgery I had convinced myself that I needed!
A prod, […]

Being ill makes for good shiatsu

Tony Brown @ January 30, 2008 # No Comment Yet

For the first time in a long while I have been really under the weather. At first I thought it was toothache and then my digestion shut down. I was also very agitated and could not sit around feeling sorry for myself. I had to walk around feeling sorry for myself, often […]

Do you analyse trends in hara diagnoses?

Tony Brown @ November 29, 2007 # No Comment Yet

I have been keeping simple logs of the hara diagnoses for each of my clients. So apart from the full treatment write ups I have a simple table in the back of my diary that looks like this:

20/03/2007
K+/H-

Lu+/SI-

01/05/2007
SI+/Lu-

Jitsu is represented by + and Kyo by -
Recently I had the idea to go through each […]

As I mentioned yesterday I am creating a questionnaire for initial shiatsu consultations. I have never up to now used a formal set of questions to interview my clients preferring instead to just go where the conversation lead me. I think this has been a useful approach and helped me to notice not […]

Constant change

Tony Brown @ November 5, 2007 # No Comment Yet

I am trying to introduce more point work into my shiatsu but this has meant the way I conduct treatments is changing again. I have always used a few favourite points but now that I am trying to use a wider set and for specific effect I need to plan when in the treatment […]

Summarising Ki

Tony Brown @ October 5, 2007 # No Comment Yet

I just want to finish of my current thread about the nature of Ki by thanking Tracy for her contribution to the discussion and to Bevan for his post on The great Qi debate.
Looking back over my shiatsu training I remember starting out trying to feel an energy, hoping to be zapped by this mystical […]

Shiatsu intention

Tony Brown @ October 4, 2007 # No Comment Yet

I was under the misapprehension that the skill of an acupuncturist was in diagnosis and point selection. I have never considered that the manner in which the needle is inserted into the body mattered. From an observer’s point of view this appears to be a skill similar to a Western doctor using a […]

How much shiatsu is too much?

Tony Brown @ October 2, 2007 # No Comment Yet

I have been treating a married couple for a while now but each partner on different nights. It seemed sensible to arrange appointments so that I treat both on the same evening. I have now completed three treatment sessions in this way.
Each study weekend requires me to work through the day but in […]
