Shiatsu hits the spot

Shiatsu Practice

At the end of a recent treatment a client commented that they really enjoyed the session because of the number of manipulations that I used. They felt that the movement that I had put into the treatment “really hit the spot”.

What is so great about shiatsu is how different each treatment can be. Some can be very dynamic and involve a lot of movement with rotations, stretching and sometimes shaking. Other times shiatsu can be very quiet and hardly involve any movement at all. And these different sessions just happen spontaneously; there is no prescription to follow. So when a client feels that your spontaneity has hit the spot it is very pleasing.

But what is very interesting about this comment is that this particular session did not involve any more manipulation than I had previously employed on this client. Looking back through his notes I see other far more active treatments. It appears then that this particular client felt the need for movement himself and connected to what I did.

It is not only the shiatsu giver that has to feel what is needed and respond; one hopes that the client will too. This client in has not consciously connected to shiatsu in this way in the past. It was even more pleasing then to hit this particular spot.
