Intuition in medical diagnosis
In the news, Personal Development, Shiatsu Practice
This is an interesting article on the BBC about diagnosis by computer in conventional medicine. It highlights the conflicts that exist between diagnosis by factual analysis alone and acting on a gut instinct. Themes that I have mentioned before in my review of the the book Blink.
Shiatsu is all about that instinct to act. We diagnose by touch and feeling using our Hara as a guide. Shiatsu is literally gut instinct! However, we have to be careful not to ignore hard facts. We need to be aware of the patterns and analyse the signs and symptoms when appropriate.
In this respect we are not unlike the Doctors in the BBC article. Conventional medicine may favour the analytical and Shiatsu the instinct but practitioners of both disciplines need to develop both skills.
